White is where
possibility dwells / exists.
El Jardín
Blanco (The White Garden) is the space where childhood
express the purest sounds of its own again.
White allows us
to hear again our most innocent voices ... the voices
of child´s play...
And if we open
that space the existence plays and we gradually become
transformed in those sounds, in those colours ...
White is the
possibility of colour, is the colour that pours it out
permitting / allowing
the Silence ... is the silence that enables us to sing
in the colours again.
Empty and
plenitude, breathing of white and silence, the
possibility that the world becomes illuminated.
We are very
interested to deal with sound colour and to inhabit
resonance.
This process was gradually deeper and , at least in
some aspects, related to
colour in the paintings made by one of us. After many
years of work, José Marchi´s visuals was submitted to
a growing vanishing treatment of characters and
colours. Our sound installation El Jardin Blanco (The
White Garden) from 2001 was deeply linked to this
process and we´ve noticed that white colour ( and
white diatonic sounds ) were a kind of sound world
plenty of different luminous possibilities.
By the other
hand, we knew many inspiring readings that could let
us know
some understanding about feelings / ideas on the white
kind of sound.
After some time, we knew the insightful writings by
Alaska based composer John Luther Adams . --"White is
not the absence of color," says Adams "It is the
fullness of light. Silence is not the absence of
sound. It is the presence of stillness. As the Inuit
have known for centuries, and as painters from
Malevich to Ryman have shown us more recently,
whiteness embraces many hues, textures, and nuances."
Another good example of vanishing colour field are the
paintings by Mark Rothko and its particular sense
"beyond the painting" in a place like
Rothko Chapel.
Ideas,
sensations and feelings "beyond" the paintings, the
sounds and the
resonances. But firmly rooted in resonances.
