THE KAOSS PAD With the dynamic effect/controller KAOSS PAD, you can control any audio source in real time. Using sources like records, cds, samplers or keyboards, mic input, you can manipulate with the touch of a finger the input sound and you create powerful effect sounds.
Using the KAOSS X-Y pad, you can completely control the way in which effects are applied. Since the X-Y pad lets you control separate parameters (delay, sound modulation etc.) in the horizontal and vertical directions, you can do things like simultaneously controlling the delay time and the feedback or a delay line, or simultaneously modifying the cutoff and resonance of a filter. The X-Y pad can also be scraped or tapped to control the sound, so you can produce switchtype effects that are impossible with knobs or sliders.
KAOSS is packed with a multitude of effects including spatial-type effects such as delay, reverb and panorama; filters to process the sound; and modulation-type effects such as flanger, phaser and pitch shifter. Sixty effect programs for mixing or sound design are provided in internal memory, and can be selected easily by turning a knob, as well as be assigned to any of the six buttons for immediate recall. You can also press a Hold switch to freeze the effect setting at the current location when you remove your finger from the X-Y pad.
You can use the KAOSS pad to sample an external audio source: line, mic or phono(!!) input for a maximum of 5 seconds at 48 kHz: its digital processing ensures that the audio quality of the input source will not be compromised in the least.
Then you control that sound from the pad. The sampled source can be modified using a variety of effects such as time stretch, reverse playback, and pitch change - an ideal way to create sound material for further sampling or to integrate sampled effects into your music act.
By connecting a microphone for the MIC IN jack, you can apply the internal effects to your voice or even sample yourself - and use the X-Y pad to freely control the results.
By connecting a MIDI device (sampler, digital piano, synthesizer, any MIDI-controller), you can use the KAOSS pad to control the sounds and effects of an external keyboard, sampler, or effect processor. You can freely set which MIDI controller numbers the horizontal and vertical directions send out to match the pad to any desired parameters of your piece or gear.
Since it can actually send up to seven control changes, the KAOSS Pad can function as a versitile MIDI controller or as a music studio tool for audio &MIDI recorings on your computer (desktop or laptop) provided with a high quality audio-card.
