The Classical Music Magazine DIAPASON (Avril 2002, F) released an interesting test of 10 violins < ¤ 1000 (EUR).

The most satisfying violins to buy for beginners or non-professionals are tested by Yukari Tate (Sextuor Sartori, Joanna Matkowska (solist from the Opera of Paris), Florin Szigeti (Quatuor Enesco) and Akiko Nanashima (violin teacher Aulnay-sous-bois / F). The results are:

Industrial made

PALATINO CONSERVATORY (made in China)

all in

about ¤ 400 (EUR) / sonority, ergonomy, and esthetics: very well

 Hand made

JAY HAIDE (made in China)

only

about ¤ 720 (EUR) / sonority, ergonomy, and esthetics: very well

 Hand made

ATELIER CHU (made in China)

only about ¤ 880 (EUR) / sonority, ergonomy: very well / esthetics: excellent
