About ten years ago, my attention was drawn to the performance of a young free jamming musician. He improvised in a very naturally structured way with a miniature orchestra of unconventional soundobjects, small wind, string and percussion instruments, environmental sounds, etc. His live performance is like a "nouvelle cuisine" of subtle sound selection, adding spice with primitive electronic tools by morfing the sound plate. Recently, this guy (named Timo van Luijk) got in touch with me and the P-ART world. He also exchanged copies of my record "Meta" (1983), and my Anthology Box (1985) with friends in Europe and Japan.

In the digital age of music, Af Ursin (aka Timo van Luyk / born Finland, 1967) prefers the "old fashion" medium of warm, analog vinyl sound for his music productions. In the meanwhile, he released remarkable records. During his Japanese tour in the summer of 2003, Af Ursin performed fragile sounds, impure noises, and strips of silence in a program of deafening techno and noisemusic. "Are you a Buddhist?", whispered the Japanese audience.

'Musical Buddhist'

Love for nature; love for sound
The sound of nature, the nature of sound

Sound is a fascinating vibration that can take any form.
Intangible but you can feel it. Becomes or doesn't become music.
Speaks volumes without words. Speaks for itself.

I'm interested to explore sound and its identity through physical vibration,
mainly with cheap or defected acoustic instruments (wind, string, percussion)
which I find very charming; they have a strong individual character and they
stand completely opposite to the actual technological consumption society.

I'm interested in improvisation, the expression of the moment where playing
becomes a method of employing the mind without thinking.
Following your intuition without fixed rules or reference, a sense of freedom.

I'm interested in the world of the irrational, tenuous or surreal; creating atmospheres where everything is possible through sound manipulation; modification of instruments
or different ways of recording and processing sound.

Live performances happen occasionally and take place in the same spirit; structured improvisations on a small set of miniature acoustic instruments with slight manipulation,
partly amplified, on remarkably low volume.
